I found this game a little harder than the average Nancy Drew game, and it took me several days to solve it. There are, however, a few instances that definitely made me jump. I didn't find this the scariest game I've played (Ghost of Thornton Hall, Shadow at the Water's Edge, Curse of Blackmoor Manor, and Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake were the scariest in my opinion). This game is considered a "scary game" due to monster sightings. I personally found the suspects in this game quite fascinating, and there are enough clues that I was able to guess the villain without it being too easy. The castle and the forest are a little confusing to get around in at first, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Like all the Nancy Drew games, "The Captive Curse" involves exploring different areas and questioning suspects. The owner of the castle asks Nancy to come to Germany to investigate, but she soon finds that she may well be following in the footsteps of the girls who were whisked away by the monster years ago. However, there is a slight problem - the monster has been sighted. The game is set in a German castle which is preparing for an annual celebration - a celebration of the fact that the legendary monster that supposedly plagued the castle in centuries past. I have enjoyed all of them, but "The Captive Curse" was especially enjoyable, in my opinion. I've played all but the newest of the Nancy Drew games.
